Ferrari Red Professional Liquid High-Temperature Wrinkle Paint

The Ferrari Red Wrinkle Paint is the most famous worldwide for painting the engines of the Modenese carmaker.

High-Temperature Wrinkle Spray Paint for the original restoration of sports car engines such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Harley Davidson, Lancia Stratos, Delta HF Integrale, and Escort Cosworth.
The high-temperature wrinkle engine paint is also used for design and decorative items, like Nikon camera lenses and furniture, thanks to its incredible resistance to scratches, heat, and abrasion.
Once dried, it is more durable than catalyzed paint, but it is essential to carefully follow the instructions in the technical data sheet to achieve these results.

Usage Instructions and Recommendations
To apply this product correctly to engines, it is mandatory to use our high-temperature primers. For other applications in design and architecture, we recommend reading the technical data sheet and contacting our office.

Differences Between Liquid and Spray Versions

  1. The spray paint is available in standard medium-fine wrinkle and XL large wrinkle, similar to the original liquid body shop version.
  2. The spray version is not ideal for large components like some engine cylinder heads or large design objects because it cannot coat large surfaces uniformly. For professional work, we recommend using the liquid version applied with body shop spray guns.

Metal or Alloy Parts Preparation

  • Use exclusively our Wrinkle Primer.
  • Sandblast and apply the primer within 2 hours after sandblasting.
  • Handle parts with latex gloves to avoid oxidation and degrease with our Wrinkle Paint Degreaser.
  • Clean thoroughly with compressed air and remove any old paint or rust with sandpaper if not sandblasted.
  • Apply one of our specially designed primers (spray or liquid). If more than two hours have passed since sandblasting, sandblast again.

Plastic Parts Preparation

  • Always apply the wrinkle primer to plastic parts.
  • Clean with anti-static degreasers, such as our universal anti-silicone degreaser.
  • Remove old or residual paint and apply our Wrinkle Primer Adhesion Promoter for plastic.

Application of Wrinkle Paint

  • These rules apply to both spray and liquid versions as the application method and technique are the same.
  • For spray paint, shake well before use. For the liquid version, shake the can briefly, filter the paint, and use a 1.3 or 1.4 mm spray gun nozzle.
  • Apply one or two coats of primer, let it dry for 1 hour at room temperature, and then proceed with the wrinkle paint application.
  • Apply a light tack coat first, wait 5 minutes (summer) or 15 minutes (winter), and then apply full wet coats, ensuring the surface looks glossy and uniformly wet. Wait 5-15 minutes between coats depending on the season.

Curing and Wrinkling

  • Full drying takes 20 days at room temperature (30 days in winter). Baking the paint at 50–60°C for 3 hours can accelerate this process but may affect the wrinkle pattern.

Curing Methods

  1. Small Oven or Body Shop Oven: Bake at 70°C for 30 minutes in a small oven. Allow 12 hours to cool before handling.
  2. Heat Gun: Heat pieces evenly but note that results may be inconsistent, making it unsuitable for larger objects.
  3. Infrared Lamps: Use carefully to achieve a uniform wrinkle effect. Allow pieces to rest for 12 hours before handling and one week before reassembling.
  4. Sunlight: In summer, place parts in direct sunlight at 25°C or higher, ensuring even exposure.

Resistance and Aesthetic Features

  • Wrinkle paint has a unique ribbed velvet-like appearance.
  • The wrinkle pattern size depends on the number of coats applied.
  • Renowned examples include the Harley Davidson Nightster engine, Ferrari, and Lamborghini engines.
  • Once dried, wrinkle paint is more resistant than catalyzed paint despite being single-component.
