XL Maserati Red Wrinkle Paint for Car and Motorcycle Engines

Also suitable for painting Ferrari red.

The XL version of the wrinkle paint is a product exclusively for professionals and is not sold to private individuals.
It replicates the original vintage wrinkle texture of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, and Lancia engines.
The difference between this version and the contemporary one lies in the size and shape of the wrinkle, which are entirely different.
This product is available only on request and requires 7–10 days from the order date before it can be shipped.
Requests for expedited delivery are not possible and will not be accepted.

This paint is by far the most famous and best-selling product for replicating or restoring the engines of iconic Ferraris or simply personalizing the engine or valve covers of your car.
It is a specialized product for the original painting of sports engines, including: Lancia Stratos, Delta HF Integrale, Escort Cosworth, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Dodge Viper, Harley Davidson, Triumph, and more.
Once dried, it is more resistant than catalyzed paint, but it is crucial to carefully follow the instructions in the technical data sheet to achieve the desired results.

Proper Use and Application

  • For engine applications, it is mandatory to use our high-temperature primers.
  • For other uses in the design and architecture sectors, we recommend consulting the technical data sheet and contacting our office.

Difference Between Spray and Liquid Versions
The only difference between the liquid version and the spray version is that the spray is unsuitable for large components, such as some engine cylinder heads or design objects, as it cannot provide uniform coverage over large surfaces.
For professional projects, we recommend using the liquid version applied with body shop spray guns.

Application

  1. Surface Preparation:
    • Clean the surface and remove old paint by sanding or sandblasting.
  2. Primer Application:
    • Use a spray gun with a 1.3mm nozzle at 2 bar pressure.
    • Apply a light coat followed immediately by a full coat of our Wrinkle Primer:
      • White Primer for Yellow, Red, Silver Gray colors.
      • Black Primer for Black, Maserati Blue, Military Green, Military Brown colors.
    • Wait 30–40 minutes until the primer is dry to the touch.
  3. Paint Application:
    • Shake the Wrinkle Paint thoroughly.
    • Apply a light coat and wait 5 minutes at room temperature.
    • Apply the first full coat and wait 5 minutes in summer or 10 minutes in winter at room temperature.
    • Apply the second full coat and wait 5 minutes in summer or 10 minutes in winter.
    • Apply the third full coat and wait 10–15 minutes in summer or 20–30 minutes in winter before heating to create the wrinkle effect.

Note: You can apply a fourth coat for a larger wrinkle texture. The type of spray gun used can also influence the size of the wrinkle.

How to Wrinkle the Paint

Using a Heat Gun:

  • Suitable for small parts and components, such as a Lancia Thema Ferrari or Lancia Delta HF Integrale cylinder head.
  • NOT suitable for larger parts, such as Ferrari cylinder heads, unless two people heat simultaneously.

Using an Oven:

  • A small oven, such as a home oven, or a body shop oven at 70°C can be used until the entire piece wrinkles completely.

How Long Should It Bake?

  • Bake until the wrinkle texture forms across the entire surface.
  • Once fully wrinkled, stop heating and let the piece dry for one week at room temperature.

When Can the Pieces Be Reassembled?

  • Pieces can be handled the day after wrinkling.
  • Pieces can be installed on the engine after 48–72 hours, but handle bolts carefully as the paint may tear. Full curing occurs within 1–3 weeks, depending on room temperature.
